Well, it is now 4 decades since the internet was first in use. Who could have thought, at that time, how huge it would end up in such a rather short period?

I remember, as a little child, thinking how fortunate were such people as Alexander Graham Bell, being able to invent the telephone. Others had invented wireless, television, cinecamera. What was there left for those of my generation to invent? It is fortunate others had more foresight than I did. We now benefit from CDs, DVDs, mobile telephones and many other fascinating items which I could not have dreamed of as a youngster.

On the 40th anniversary of the internet, it is interesting to see the differences we have seen in the way PCs are used over this time. In the early years, there was no world wide web, so the internet was not the same as we think of today when we say we use it.

Not all companies had access to computers forty years ago, never mind people having multiple computers in their house. Even as late as the 1990’s the business where I was employed had only one computer which would connect to the internet and all staff had to rely on this in order to connect with the internet.
