Online Reputation of Online Reputation Handbook
As you can tell the blog is still pretty rough, but regardless Online Reputation Handbook was able to get a little bit of traffic. I even received an email which brightened up my day. The email was actually kind of snarky, but made a very good point. Why is it that you are writing about online reputation yet I have never heard of your blog or your product. He is absolutely right how can I go on preaching about online reputation if the online reputation of this website no longer exists.
For the next few weeks I will deploy one of the strategies I have used before to clean up the reputation of some of my clients. Below the basics of how it works. Hopefully it will drive awareness of my website and maybe a few fans
The idea behind what I will do next is fairly simple. I call it “Comment Networking.” The idea is very simple. The blogosphere is continuing to grow and there are websites that will continue to get eyeballs that have already established themselves as authorities. Your goal is to participate in the conversations that happen there and add value to people who may read your comment.
Here are the steps you need to take to streamline the process:
- Sign up for Google Alert and pick some keywords that have to do with something you are interested in. It could be music, movies, hobbies, your profession, etc. In my case i signed up for “online reputation” since thats what this blog is about.
- Check out the links that will come in through you alerts. If you find something that interest you and you have something of value to add then post your comment with your REAL name. I know its scary, but if you are adding value you have nothing to fear. There will always be people who will have opposite view points and may ridicule yours, but it is easy to be a jerk when your hiding behind the computer using a fake name.
- Use an email that has your name in it. Do not use babyblu101@hotmail.com. In my case I am trying to improve online reputation of this website so I use onlinereputationhandbook@gmail.com
- If you have a blog or a website use that as well. If you do not then link to a helpful resource on the subject that supports your comment.
- If possible click on ‘notify of follow up comments’ either through RSS or email. Here is why this is so important, people may reply to your comment, and you want to show you are not just a dirty spammer so make sure to follow up with people. Rather than checking back on the post every day, comments will be sent right to your RSS reader or email.
Remember it is important to add value to the post you are commenting on. Also, write unique content don’t copy and past the same thing throughout on various blogs.
I will use this tactic for about a week or two to get some people to come check this blog out. If you are one of those people leave a message and let me know if you find this helpful.
